(And if the weight is a big issue with Surface Pros, does that mean the smaller Surface Go is good as a tablet?)
Is it because of the weight of the Surface Pros? The SP lineup is noticeably heavier than pure tablets with similarly sized displays (like iPad Pro 12.9" or Samsung's Tab S8 Plus), and is probably too heavy to comfortably hold in the hands for long periods of time. 
Is it because of the software is not designed for tablets? This seems like the most plausible reason since most Windows software is not designed for touch/stylus as the main input. I couldn't pinpoint exactly why people say its tablet UX isn't ideal, but here are some of the potential reasons I thought of: In particular, I was surprised how good drawing and taking notes was with the Surface Pen - an important aspect of a tablet's UX. I've tried out the Surface Go and Surface Pro tablets in the retail store and the tablet UX was decent to me. But they also suggest that it's not have a great user experience ("UX") as a tablet, but they don't clearly state why.
